Broad Line Emission in Low-metallicity Blue Compact Dwarf Galaxies: Evidence for Stellar Wind, Supernova and Possible Agn Activity

چکیده
We present spectra of a large sample of low-metallicity blue compact dwarf galaxies which exhibit broad components in their strong emission lines, mainly in Hβ, [O iii] λ4959, 5007 and Hα. Twenty-three spectra have been obtained with the MMT, 14 of which show broad emission. The remaining 21 spectra with broad emission have been selected from the Data Release 5 of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. The most plausible origin of broad line emission is the evolution of massive stars and their interaction with the circumstellar and interstellar medium. The broad emission with the lowest Hα luminosities (10–10 erg s) The MMT is operated by the MMT Observatory (MMTO), a joint venture of the Smithsonian Institution and the University of Arizona.

Luminous Blue Variable Stars In The Two Extremely Metal - Deficient Blue Compact Dwarf Galaxies DDO 68 and PHL 293
We present photometric and spectroscopic observations of two luminous blue variable (LBV) stars in two extremely metal-deficient blue compact dwarf (BCD) galaxies, DDO 68 with 12+logO/H = 7.15 and PHL 293B with 12+logO/H = 7.72. These two BCDs are the lowest-metallicity galaxies where LBV stars have been detected, allowing to study the LBV phenomenon in the extremely low metallicity regime, and...
متن کاملNear - infrared properties of Blue Compact Dwarf Galaxies : the link between solar and low metallicity ⋆
We have obtained near-infrared images and spectra of three blue compact dwarf galaxies of intermediate sub-solar metallicity Tol 35, Tol 3 and UM 462. This work is part of a larger project aimed to study the star formation and the stellar populations of low metallicity galaxies in the near-infrared. In this frame work galaxies of intermediate metallicity represent an important step in understan...
متن کاملSpectroscopic Study of Blue Compact Galaxies II. Spectral Analysis and Correlations
This is the second paper in a series studying the star formation rates, stellar components, metallicities, and star formation histories and evolution of a sample of blue compact galaxies. We analyzed spectral properties of 97 blue compact galaxies, obtained with the Beijing Astronomical Observatory (China) 2.16 m telescope, with spectral range 3580Å – 7400Å. We classify the spectra according to...
متن کاملAGN Zoo and Classications of Active Galaxies
We review the variety of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) classes (so-calledAGN zoo") and classification schemes of galaxies by activity types based on their optical emission-line spectrum, as well as other parameters and other than optical wave-length ranges. A historical overview of discoveries of various types of active galaxies is given, including Seyfert galaxies, radio galaxies, QSOs, BL Lace...
متن کاملStellar Populations in the Central Galaxies of Fossil Groups
It is inferred from the symmetrical and luminous X-ray emission of fossil groups that they are mature, relaxed galaxy systems. Cosmological simulations and observations focusing on their dark halo and inter-galactic medium properties confirm their early formation. Recent photometric observations suggest that, unlike the majority of non-fossil brightest group galaxies (BGGs), the central early-t...
